How to Play Baccarat?

  1. Objective: The main goal in baccarat is to predict which of two hands – the Player or the Banker – will come closest to a total of 9 points. You can bet on the Player’s hand, the Banker’s hand, or a Tie.
  2. Card Values:
    • Ace counts as 1 point.
    • 2 to 9 count as their face value.
    • 10, Jack, Queen, and King count as 0 (or 10 is dropped from the total).
  3. Gameplay:
    • Both the Player and the Banker receive two cards initially.
    • A third card may be dealt to either or both based on the baccarat drawing rules (not decisions made by the dealer or the players).
  4. Third Card Rule:
    • If either hand totals 8 or 9 from the first two cards, no further cards are drawn. This is called a ‘natural’.
    • If the Player’s total is 5 or less, the Player gets another card. If it is 6 or 7, they stand.
    • Banker’s rules for drawing a third card depend on the Banker’s initial total and the Player’s third card if one is drawn:
      • If the Player stands (i.e., does not draw a third card), the Banker draws with a total of 5 or less and stands with 6 or more.
      • If the Player does draw a third card, the Banker draws or stands according to a more complex set of rules that depends on the Banker’s initial cards and what the Player’s third card was.
  5. Payouts:
    • Winning bets on the Player are paid 1:1.
    • Winning bets on the Banker also pay 1:1, but there is typically a 5% commission (note that Jili Games offers a version without commission on the Banker bet).
    • Winning bets on a Tie usually pay 8:1 or sometimes 9:1.
  6. Side Bets:
    • Many baccarat games offer side bets, such as betting on the Player or Banker hand being a pair. The specifics of these side bets can vary by casino and game version.
